One of the great tools that teachers can use to change teaching is screen capture. These are tools that allow you to take pictures of your screen or to record your screen. This allows you to prepare material for students to watch before class that allows you to spend the class time in discussion, evaluation and hands on exploration of the content that students have viewed. These screen captured videos can be posted on sites like youtube or vimeo to give students access from any device. Screen Capture can also be used to prepare tutorials to help students and fellow teachers understand processes, procedures, or solutions.
There are a variety of programs both free and for purchase that teachers can use for screen capture. The following article from Mashable list twelve different screen casting tools that can be used by teachers.

The article is a little older but most of these resources are still available in updated form. The list isn't comprehensive. One of the most well know (and my favorite) Camtasia by Techsmith was not put on the list because it is so well known. Also a great app available to do short videos on the iPad is call Screen Chomp by the same company. There is an older post on this free app.
